Winny Puhh or Winny The Pooh

This was a thing when I left Riga two months ago and it's only gotten larger since then. Ear worm stuff, I like it anyway. It's an Estonian band singing about travelling to Latvia but I could never figure out what the hell the lead singer was saying! He's sort of famous over there in Estonia as a punk type dude.

Lots of energy! So dig it.

EDIT: HAH! Trust Reddit user VerdigolFludidito come up with a translation:
(note. a Korsakov is a tough guy)

Our local man, one Korsakov, went to Latvia yesterday,
he carried three tons - he broke his leg.

Our local man, one Korsakov, got punched in the face,
it went rather badly for him - he broke is nose.

Our local man, one Korsakov, ate a fresh cucumber.
Stabbed his thumb in his eye - now the thumb's bone is broken.

Our local man, one Korsakov, he lifted up a cupboard,
He shouldn't have done this - now he broke his thigh.

[Chorus]

Our local man, one Korsakov, he saw a thief,
He wanted to call the police - he broke his jaw.

Our local man, one Korsakov, he watched the stars,
it's unfortunate that he did so - he broke his neck.

Our local man, one Korsakov, went to the shop yesterday.
He came back in a wheelchair - he broke his leg.

Our local man, one Korsakov, he smoked,
He got dizzy, fell down, broke his shinbone.

The life of a strongman is not easy.

[Chorus]

Our local man, one Korsakov, was putting up a plasterboard
thought it's an easy job and instantly broke his wrist.

Our local man, one Korsakov, jacked off yesterday
did it so hard, he broke his pelvis

Our local man, one Korsakov, brought home a lady
shouldn't have done that - he broke his finger

Our local man, one Korsakov, went swimming in the winter.
He never came back out - so he must've broken some bones.

[First verse repeats]

The life of a strongman is not easy.

Boris Johnson interview with Eddie Mair

Well! This is a car wreck of an interview for Boris Johnson Mayor of London. And one I think we can all agree that you would never see an American or Russian politician being subjected to! I was agog and found myself holding my breath. Well done Eddie Mair!

Fun starts around 7:22

Can you imagine Putin sitting down and being treated this way? Not even in your dreams. As for American politicians they have learned to not fear the media as evidenced by the continuing careers of "Diaper" David Vitter, serial adulterer Newt Gingrich and others. A little squirming and it's soon over.

Old Boris will be a long time picking the glass out of his face over this one.

On The Road Again!

Heading back to Moscow.

I live in a nice quarter, Belorusskaya. Five minute walk from the Metro and train station which connects you directly with Sheremetyevo airport among other destinations. The airport one makes me happy as it provides a quick and safe exit should one be needed, driving is worth your life. Ten minute walk to Patriarchs Ponds, twenty to the Kremlin. I can walk to the zoo but to be honest it's pretty depressing.

Tretyakov Gallery for my culture fix and I'm just two blocks off Tverskaya so I can watch Putins limo running over the babushkas with their sticks! And lets not forget the wonderful Moscow Metro.

Ahh, Moscow!

NINAS RABBIT

You know, right now you should be looking at an endearing video of a short eared rabbit of the local city variety delicately nibbling carrot stalks carefully placed by myself outside my basement bedroom window. Because I told my wife I would regularly do so before she flew off into the raging sharp teeth of a savage Winterpeg Prairie storm on Feb. 16th trying to make Riga via Toronto and Frankfurt with an impacted wisdom tooth and absolutely no hope of success. She failed miserably at Toronto bye the way, a short run.

Well, you're not going to see the aforementioned rabbit in any recognized video format unless I re-record the admittedly easily staged event with my iPhone or some newer as yet un-purchased model of video velocipede since none of the files produced by these old technologies in my satchel (HP Flip as an example) will function anymore except as local feedback. Meaning, useless! Might as well let a cop steal it.

So tomorrow I shall shatter my Flip HP on Main street outside Earls before I go in for my Guinness and vegetarian foot massage with an accommodating local blogger, because the `flip has finally been flopped.

And I haz a sad. It was a fine piece of gear.

Latviešu Sportistus, Latvian Sportman

I think it should read "Latvian Sportmanship" because a majority of the comments show an appreciation of the humour at play in this animated series and also deliver a few good shots back.

from Apollo.lv  (translation mine)

"Family Guy" mocks Latvian sportsmen

If you're already accustomed to the animated series "Family Guy" you've heard and seen all kinds of "black jokes". Unfortunately, this time the laughter shows Latvian athletes in a bad light.
Scenes from the latest series shows students whose classmate is ridiculed for funny branded shoes. The student defends himself by saying that his mother had told him that these shoes were popular with Latvian athletes.
Then a smoking man appears in the scene who tells the story with a strange accent that these shoes fit a variety of sports, and they are sold one by one.
"YouTube" has one commentator implying that Americans should show their anger at the fact that we have the best beach volleyball (remembering the London Olympics).

Out of Office Reply

As you may have noticed posts have been scarce if not totally absent lately as I am out of country for a short while. But I'll try to write something about my present location (Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada) that may be relevant to my loyal readers across the pond. For instance when fighting a writing block you can always talk about the weather right? So here it is. Makes you feel not so bad about your own?
